Burnaby is ready to host the 2016 WTF World Taekwondo Junior Championships in November 2016.
75 million people worldwide practice the sport of Taekwondo – and this World Junior Championships is one of the key events in the competition calendar. This is truly an international event with over 100 countries competing for international glory during five days of explosive competition.
The 2016 World Taekwondo Junior Championships will be the 11 edition of the World Taekwondo Junior Championships, which are held every two years. This event features 5 days of competition involving some of the best young taekwondo athletes from around the world. Traditionally South Korea, Russia, Chinese Taipei, China, Great Britain, France and Mexico are significant powerhouses in Taekwondo, producing top performances and Olympic Champions.
The event is sanctioned through Taekwondo Canada with the full support of BC Taekwondo with the full support of BC Taekwondo Federation. It is delivered through cooperation between the City of Burnaby, Tourism Burnaby and the local, provincial and national taekwondo community.
It will be an exciting showcase of the next generation of taekwondo superstars, with over 800 athletes between the ages of 14 to 17 competing for top international honours.
Each country can send one athlete per weight division with coaches and staff support.
